Q & A Session with owner Sarah Bearden

How did the idea for your business come about and how did you come up with the name?

Joe had been working for another landscaping company and saw that there was a need for a
company who was dependable, honest, reliable and could offer a wide range of services for
customers. Not just lawn maintenance, installs, or furniture but an all-around company that
could take care of everything you could possibly need to make our outdoors the perfect oasis.
Dreamscapes was created out of the realization that we wanted to make every customer's
dream a reality.

What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur?

We never wanted to work for someone who would limit our dreams. Or tell us what could and couldn't be done. We wanted to be able to own a company where the sky's the limit.

What is unique about your business?

We don't just do lawn maintenance or just do install projects. We do and carry everything. We are the one stop shop for everything you could need for your home. From welcome mats and outdoor rugs to our furniture lines to offering everything landscaping. There won't be a need for a customer to have to hire two and three different people to take care of all of their needs.

How do you market your business, and which tactics have been most successful?

We have used several marketing things before such as the newspaper, magazines, and radio ads. But Facebook and Instagram have been our biggest platforms for all of our projects and retail. We have a large following who enjoys seeing tips and ideas and sales that we have at our retail store.

What is non-negotiable for you in business?

People being rude, employees or customers alike. We are all human and should be treated with respect. I will not ever tolerate someone being rude or disrespectful on any side.

What do you look for in an employee? Best hiring tip.

We are big on how an employee holds themselves. Not just at work but outside of work too. We look at their social media pages to see how they act and talk outside of work. It says a lot about someone how they treat people outside of work and the respect they have for others and themselves.

What key activities would you recommend entrepreneurs to invest their time in?

Learning what your area needs, read and study the things people are saying they want in need in both communication and the physical side of the job.

If you had a magic stick, what are the three things you would change in the world?

  1. I would change how people treat each other. Too often people are quick to judge and comment. We have forgotten as a society that just because you have an opinion it doesn't mean you have to say it.
  2. Make people more aware. Too often anymore we don't look around. We are always on our phones watching our world go right by. If we could look up and smile and look someone in the eye and say hello, we could start seeing people for themselves, not just what we see or read on social media.
  3. Help our local people who want help and are struggling. We have a problem here locally with people who need and want help. But not a lot of outlets of ways for them to receive help. I would love to see a tiny village created where people who were hungry, homeless, and needing help could go to get cleaned up and get back on their feet.
