2018 - Lions Club Celebrations
Lions International, celebrating 100
years…Carrollton, Ga. Lions Club celebrating 85 years
Lions Club International
is the largest service club organization in the world. Our 1.4 million members
perform valuable service in 210 countries and geographic areas around the
globe. Lions are friends, family and neighbors who share a core belief:
community is what we make it.
MISSION
STATEMENT: To empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs,
encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions clubs.
Beginning in
1917 Melvin Jones (a Chicago business man) asked a simple and world changing
question: what if people put their talents to work improving their communities. 100 years later, Lions Clubs International is
the world’s largest service organization.
The
Carrollton Lions Club is celebrating its 85th anniversary in 2018.
Look around your community, you’ll be able to see Lions projects along with many
more that are not so visible that has changed so many lives for the better.
Whether it’s a seeing-eye dog, a person assisted with glasses or hearing aids.
Maybe a natural disaster, we’ve been there lending a hand, sometimes financial
aid or sometimes in assisting those in need of food and temporary shelter or to
clean-up in the community.
As Lions
around the globe take on a new endeavor of research to help eliminate the
dreadful disease of diabetes, it will mark another milestone in the history of
Lions Club International.
In 2015, our
international president challenged our members around the world to serve 100
million people by the time we celebrate our centennial year (2018). Well, we
not only met that goal but actually doubled it. In only two and a half years
since that “call to service”, Lions International has helped over 200 million
people around the globe and we’re not done yet!
